What was once the Grand Oaks Golf Course, the facility will be an 18-hole private club upon completion of the renovation, catering to the city's growing professional population and strong alumni network.
In an effort to “fast track” the construction process and ensure a late-summer construction deadline, Golden Eagle Investments, site developers, have retained the services of two highly-qualified golf course construction companies, Raven Golf Construction and SEMA Golf. With an aggressive construction schedule in place, it was necessary to divide the project into two pieces and award nine holes to each contractor. SEMA is building holes 1, 2, 14-18 and the driving range; and Raven is building holes 3-13.
SEMA Golf has worked with the country's top architects and owners at some of the nation's well-recognized courses. SEMA was named recipient of the 2005 Creative Excellence Award for New Golf Course Construction of the “Outlaw” course, located at Desert Mountain in Scottsdale , Arizona , which was presented by Golf Course News. Raven Golf Construction, founded in 1996, has built some of the premiere golf courses in the country with leading golf course designers including Pete Dye and Ron Pritchard. Additionally, they have also built and renovated golf course for PGA Touring Professionals such as Arnold Palmer and Tom Lehman.
The Jim Fazio re-designed golf course at The Country Club of Oxford will meander through lush, mature trees while passing by several lakes that will come into play on multiple holes. The course will experience significant elevation changes as it plays through the hills and valleys of the northern Mississippi countryside. The fertile soil on which the golf course will be built will provide an excellent foundation for local foliage such as dogwood trees and azalea bushes. In addition to the top-quality course, the club will offer a new practice area including a driving range, and recreational amenities such as tennis and swimming. Future facilities to be built in conjunction with the golf course expansion include a clubhouse featuring a full-service golf shop, fully appointed men's and women's locker rooms, lounge, restaurant, exercise facilities and meeting rooms.
